Mary Gauthier is a Grammy-nominated American country/folk singer/songwriter and critically acclaimed author whose dark atmospheres and tales of marginalized people draw on her early experiences with addiction and recovery and growing up gay in southern Louisiana.

Each song on Gauthier’s 2019 Grammy-nominated tenth album Rifles & Rosary Beads delivered a gut punch: deceptively simple and emotionally complex. From the opening “Soldiering On” (“What saves you in the battle/Can kill you at home”) to “Bullet Holes in the Sky” (“They thank me for my service/And wave their little flags/They genuflect on Sundays/And yes, they'd send us back”), all eleven songs were co-written with wounded veterans as part of the five-year-old Songwriting With: Soldiers program. Participants of the program have said the experience of songwriting was life-changing.

Gauthier's first nine albums presented extraordinary confessional songs, deeply personal, profoundly emotional pieces ranging from “I Drink,” a blunt accounting of addiction, to “March 11, 1962,” the day she was born — and relinquished to an orphanage — to “Worthy,” in which the singer finally understands that she is deserving of love. A number of her studio albums have gone Gold or Platinum in the U.S.

In her 2021 memoir, Gauthier said: “Writing helps me sort out confusion, untangle powerful emotions, and ward off desperation. It helps me navigate the powerful emotional weather systems of life.”

Gauthier’s songs have been recorded by dozens of artists, including Jimmy Buffet, Dolly Parton, Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw, Bettye Lavette and Amy Helm. They have also appeared in film and television projects, including HBO TV’s Yellowstone.

Robbie Fulks is a founding father of the alt-country scene and an icon in roots music. One of the most gifted songwriters of his generation and deeply rooted in the musical traditions that built an entire genre, Fulks’s adventurous spirit and eclectic persona have defined a critically-acclaimed 30-year-plus career that has included 16 solo albums and two Grammy® nominations. Fulks performed on NBC’s Today and Late Night with Conan O’Brien shows as well as on PBS’s Austin City Limits. From 2004 to 2008 he hosted an hourlong performance/interview program for XM satellite radio, “Robbie’s Secret Country.” He’s also made multiple radio appearances on WSM’s “Grand Ole Opry”; PRI’s “Whad’ya Know”; NPR’s “Fresh Air,” “Mountain Stage,” and “World Cafe”; and the syndicated “Acoustic Café.”
