To call PETER MULVEY an acoustic singer-songwriter and guitarist just doesn’t cover it. He’s equally gifted as a singer, writer, and guitarist. With 19 records, an illustrated book, thousands of live performances, a TEDx talk, a decades-long association with the National Youth Science Camp, appearances on NPR, and an annual autumn fundraising bicycle tour, Peter Mulvey has built his life’s work on poetry, social justice, scientific literacy, and a deeply abiding humanism. Opening for luminaries such as Emmylou Harris, Richard Thompson, Ani diFranco, Indigo Girls, and Greg Brown, Mulvey has attracted an audience that stretches from Anchorage to Amsterdam.

According to American Songwriter, “Peter Mulvey is a forthright singer and songwriter, and it’s that very honesty that makes his music so compelling, given that it’s flush with realities that are often simply too difficult to avoid.” Says The Irish Examiner: “Peter Mulvey is one of the most accomplished guitarists you’re ever likely to hear … utterly original … it is nigh on impossible to explain him to the uninitiated … his intelligent and sometimes complex songs engage both hemispheres of the listener’s brain.”

Whether performing solo or with SistaStrings, the dynamic violin-and-cello duo of Chauntee and Monique Ross, Mulvey has long spun tales that explore our humanity, from the political to the personal. His 2015 “Take Down Your Flag,” about the shootings at the AME Emanuel Church in Charleston, South Carolina touched the hearts of thousands and inspired reinterpretations by dozens of artists including, DiFranco, Keb’ Mo’ and Peter Yarrow.

“I heard a young folksinger at a festival sing a line about how our job is to sing the people through, and I think that young man is right as rain,” Peter says. “I’m doing my best.”
